Why the original package matters
The bag contains the product name, manufacturer, lot code, and best-by date needed for recalls or complaints. Place the whole bag inside an airtight bin rather than pouring each new bag onto old residue.
Dry food
- Store in a cool, dry location
- Close the bag after each use
- Wash and fully dry the storage bin between bags
- Use a clean scoop dedicated to pet food
- Discard food with pests, mold, moisture, rancid odor, or damaged packaging
Wet and fresh foods
Follow label refrigeration instructions, cover opened containers, use clean utensils, and discard food left out longer than recommended.
Bowls and fountains
Wash food bowls after meals and water bowls regularly. Disassemble fountains according to manufacturer directions because residue can collect in pumps and tubing.
If illness may be food-related
Stop using the product, save samples and packaging, record symptoms and dates, contact the veterinarian, and check FDA recall information.
